Investigators found that a silver or white sedan traveling northbound had, for some unknown reason, left the freeway and turned onto the east shoulder of the road. The vehicle collided with a road sign, veered back onto the freeway, entered the shoulder a second time and struck the 49-year-old woman who was walking along the grass shoulder. Suffering fatal injuries at the scene of the crash, the impact severed the victim, with his torso left on the shoulder and lower extremities propelled into the taxiways of US-301.

While still investigating the fatal crash, FHP troopers and Pasco Sheriff’s Deputies observed a silver 2005 Chevy pickup truck heading north directly towards them at high speed. Andrew Thomas Krummen, 23, drove directly at investigators, ignored stop orders, ran over the victim’s legs and fled. Soldiers chased him and used a maneuver with a patrol car to force him to a stop, the highway patrol said.

Two passengers in Krummen’s van — a 33-year-old man from Brooksville and a 35-year-old woman from Dade City — attempted to flag down the soldiers and exit the vehicle, Highway Patrol said.

Krummen was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle against a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, impaired driving, flight and escape, destruction of evidence, driving with revoked license and false imprisonment.

It was the eighth time he had been arrested in Pasco County in less than four years, according to prison records. The prison had no information about his current status.

The investigation into the 49-year-old woman is still ongoing.
